Pairwise non-commuting elements in finite metacyclic $2$-groups and some finite $p$-groups
Let $G$ be a finite group. A subset $X$ of $G$ is a set of pairwise non-commuting elements if any two distinct elements of $X$ do not commute. In this paper we determine the maximum size of these subsets in any finite non-abelian metacyclic $2$-group and in any finite non-abelian $p$-group with an abelian maximal subgroup.
متن کاملThe Jacobsthal Sequences in Finite Groups
Abstract In this paper, we study the generalized order- Jacobsthal sequences modulo for and the generalized order-k Jacobsthal-Padovan sequence modulo for . Also, we define the generalized order-k Jacobsthal orbit of a k-generator group for and the generalized order-k Jacobsthal-Padovan orbit a k-generator group for . Furthermore, we obtain the lengths of the periods of the generalized order-3 ...
متن کاملInvariant Relations and Aschbacher Classes of Finite Linear Groups
For a positive integer k, a k-relation on a set Ω is a non-empty subset ∆ of the k-fold Cartesian product Ω; ∆ is called a k-relation for a permutation group H on Ω if H leaves ∆ invariant setwise. The k-closure H of H, in the sense of Wielandt, is the largest permutation group K on Ω such that the set of k-relations for K is equal to the set of k-relations for H. We study k-relations for finit...
متن کاملBrauer relations in finite groups II: Quasi-elementary groups of order pq
This is the second in a series of papers investigating the space of Brauer relations of a finite group, the kernel of the natural map from its Burnside ring to the rational representation ring. The first paper classified all primitive Brauer relations, that is those that do not come from proper subquotients. In the case of quasi-elementary groups the description is intricate, and it does not sp...
متن کاملGroups with Identical k-Profiles
We show that for 1≤ k ≤ √ 2log3 n− (5/2), the multiset of isomorphism types of k-generated subgroups does not determine a group of order at most n. This answers a question raised by Tim Gowers in connection with the Group Isomorphism problem. ACM Classification: F.2.2 AMS Classification: 68Q17, 20D15, 20F69, 68Q25
